Nigerian entrepreneur Ufuoma Okonoko has unveiled a digital strategy aimed at unlocking billions of naira for the country’s creative sector. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Okonoko explained how the strategy would leverage digital platforms to connect creatives with investors and consumers. According to Okonoko, the strategy includes the development of a digital marketplace, a content creation hub, and a talent incubator. The strategy, she said, could generate over N1 trillion ($2.5 billion) annually for the sector. Okonoko, the founder of UfuomaMCreative, a digital marketing agency, stated that the strategy was necessary given the increasing demand for digital content and the potential it holds for the Nigerian creative industry. ‘The creative sector is poised for exponential growth, but we need to leverage technology to unlock its full potential,’ Okonoko said. The strategy is expected to create over 1 million jobs in the creative sector and boost Nigeria’s GDP by up to 2.5%. According to Vanguard News, Okonoko’s strategy follows a similar initiative by the Nigerian government, which aims to develop a digital economy worth over N50 trillion ($119 billion) by 2025.
