Umahi Orders Contractors to Protect Buildings Along Calabar-Abuja Superhighway

In a bid to ensure that the ongoing construction of the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-Abuja Superhighway progresses without demolishing buildings along its alignment, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has given contractors working on the project a directive to protect these structures. This was disclosed in reports by TVC News and Daily Post Nigeria following an inspection of the ongoing project over the weekend.

According to TVC News, Umahi emphasized the need for contractors to deploy sufficient manpower and resources to accelerate delivery while ensuring that existing buildings along the alignment are protected. The governor’s stance is a welcome development for property owners who may have been worried about potential demolitions during the construction process.

Umahi’s directive comes amidst ongoing efforts by the federal government to complete the project, which spans 437 kilometers and passes through five states. Once completed, the superhighway is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve road infrastructure in Nigeria’s southeast.

Editorial notes: The source material does not specify when the inspection took place or when Umahi issued his directive. There has been no confirmation from the contractors or the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing regarding their plans to comply with Umahi’s orders.
