Untapped Manufacturing Opportunities in Nigeria Valued at Over ₦40 trillion

A new report by the Savannah Economic Investment Debt (SEID) has highlighted over ₦40 trillion worth of untapped manufacturing opportunities in Nigeria, as imported goods met 64% of local demand for manufactured items in 2025.

According to Vanguard News, the report shows that this represents a $29.4 billion market that domestic manufacturers could tap into, with potential for significant growth and job creation.

The SEID report is one of several recent studies pointing towards Nigeria’s vast potential in manufacturing. Another study by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed that Nigeria imported goods worth over ₦13.6 trillion in 2025, representing nearly 64% of local demand.

This trend has led to calls for increased government support and investment in the sector to foster growth and reduce reliance on imports. While the Nigerian government has not yet released a formal response to these reports, experts believe that addressing manufacturing challenges could lead to economic diversification and job creation.

The full SEID report is expected to be made available soon.
