Reports from Daily Trust and Tribune Online suggest that the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) has warned against the potential negative impact of Atiku Abubakar’s proposed fuel subsidy plan for 2027 on Nigeria’s economy. The group, in a statement, urged Nigerians to scrutinise political promises ahead of the general elections. According to the TSG, a return to fuel subsidies could set the country back by 20 years.
The statement reads, ‘…the debate over fuel subsidy should not be reduced to an electoral promise, it is a matter that requires thorough analysis and understanding.’
This warning comes as various groups and individuals have been expressing their views on the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Tribune Online, the TSG also emphasised the importance of Nigerians making informed decisions based on facts rather than political propaganda. ‘It is important that we, as citizens, do not allow ourselves to be swayed by empty promises but instead make informed decisions based on facts and data,’ the statement added.
