Witness Denies Emefiele’s Involvement in Withdrawal of N124.86bn from FG’s Account

In a shocking turn of events, a key witness, Dr Ali Mohammed, testified on Wednesday at the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja, that Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was not signatory to the withdrawal of N124.86 billion from the consolidated revenue account. The witness’s testimony contradicts accusations made against Emefiele in relation to the controversial transaction. According to multiple sources, including Vanguard News, Daily Post Nigeria, and Tribune Online, Dr Mohammed is a witness for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He confirmed that the N124.86 billion withdrawn by the CBN from the Consolidated Revenue Account was not traced to Emefiele.

The controversy around this transaction began in 2023 when it was reported that the funds were withdrawn without proper authorization. Emefiele has been charged with multiple counts of financial mismanagement and abuse of office, among other allegations. However, according to the witness, the Finance Ministry did not query the withdrawal of N124.86 billion by the CBN.

This development raises questions about the legitimacy of the accusations against Emefiele and calls for further investigation into the matter. It remains unclear whether the funds have been accounted for or where they were directed.
