Residents of Zaria, a bustling city in Kaduna State, have expressed concerns and frustration over the persistence of hardship despite the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPC) discounted petrol prices. The NNPC had introduced the discount in an attempt to alleviate the burden of fuel costs on Nigerians, particularly in light of the economic challenges the nation has been facing. However, residents of Zaria have reported uneven prices, with some fuel stations charging significantly higher prices than the discounted rate. This discrepancy has led to a lingering hardship for many in the city, despite the intended relief from the NNPC’s measure. According to Premium Times Nigeria, efforts to reach the NNPC for comments on when the facility began operating and the reasons for the discrepancies in pricing have been unsuccessful.
This situation raises questions about the effectiveness of the NNPC’s discounted petrol prices and the need for more robust mechanisms to ensure fair pricing and alleviate the hardship faced by Nigerians.
