Wike Vows Not to Support Uzodimma’s Bid for Senate Presidency

In a bold statement on Monday during an appearance on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout programme, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, declared that he will not support Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma’s bid to become President of the Senate in 2027. According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria, Wike made the statement while discussing his ongoing face-off with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum. The Minister accused Governor Uzodimma of pursuing personal political interests while using his position as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum. This revelation sheds light on the reasons behind the recent tension between Wike and APC governors. According to Tribune Online, Wike’s stance is not a personal one, but rather a decision based on what he perceives as Uzodimma’s pursuit of a position that clashes with his own political ambitions. It remains unclear how the rest of the APC governors will respond to Wike’s declaration. This development could have significant implications for the power dynamics within the APC and the Nigerian Senate.
