Deepening Digital Integrity: FIAP, FactCheckAfrica, Wikimedia Nigeria Step Up Ahead of General Elections

Amidst the buildup to the upcoming general elections in Nigeria, three organisations have taken significant strides towards enhancing digital information integrity. According to reports by The Guardian Nigeria News, the Federation of African Journalists (FIAP), FactCheckAfrica, and Wikimedia Nigeria are all making efforts to ensure that online information is accurate, reliable, and trustworthy. This move is crucial as misinformation and disinformation have been known to impact elections in various ways.

FIAP has announced plans to train journalists across the continent on digital verification techniques. Meanwhile, FactCheckAfrica, a fact-checking organisation, will continue its efforts to debunk false claims and myths circulating online.

WikiMedia Nigeria, on the other hand, is focusing on improving access to reliable information by increasing the presence of Wikipedia in local languages. This step is expected to make it easier for people to find accurate information in their native tongues.

The move by these organisations comes at a time when Nigerians are becoming increasingly reliant on digital platforms for news and information. As such, it is crucial that the information they consume is accurate and reliable.
