According to Punch Newspapers, Funso Doherty, the NDC’s gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State, has made a commitment to offer free education and healthcare services within his first 100 days in office. This announcement comes as Nigeria prepares for the general elections slated for 2027.
Doherty, a businessman and politician, is running against incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who has yet to declare his intentions for a second term. The NDC’s decision to field Doherty as their candidate marks the party’s return to Lagos State politics after a 12-year absence.
Doherty’s promise of free education and healthcare echoes similar pledges made by other political parties in the run-up to the elections. However, the feasibility and cost implications of such promises remain uncertain, particularly given Lagos State’s large population and existing budgetary constraints.
