Rebuilding Grassroots Sports in Nigeria: National Summit Aims to Pave a New Pathway

The Nigerian government is gearing up to host a National Grassroots Sports Summit, according to reports from LEADERSHIP Newspapers and Sports247 Nigeria. The summit, aimed at rebuilding the grassroots sports pathway in Nigeria, is set to offer a new direction for the nation’s sports development.

The need for such a summit has been highlighted due to the decline in grassroots sports participation over the years, which has resulted in a lack of talent nurturing at the lower levels. The summit is expected to bring together stakeholders from various sectors, including sports administrators, coaches, athletes, and policymakers, to discuss and develop strategies for strengthening the grassroots sports system.

‘Rebuilding the grassroots sports pathway is crucial for the future of Nigerian sports,’ said a source from the Sports Ministry. ‘We need to identify the gaps and work together to fill them, so we can develop a sustainable sports ecosystem.’

The summit, scheduled to take place on October 15th, follows a series of efforts by the government to revitalize the sports sector, including the establishment of the National Sports Facilities Management Company and the National Sports Development Fund.

With the decline in grassroots sports participation, Nigeria has been struggling to produce world-class athletes in various sports. The summit is seen as an opportunity to address these challenges and create a new pathway for the future of Nigerian sports.
