According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Ben Akabueze, has highlighted the crucial role professional bodies play in driving Nigeria’s development through procurement. Speaking at the 26th Annual Conference of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Akabueze emphasized the need for these bodies to collaborate more closely with government agencies to ensure effective procurement processes. He stated, “Professional bodies have a critical role to play in ensuring that our procurement processes are transparent, efficient, and effective. They can provide the necessary expertise and oversight to ensure that public funds are used judiciously and for the intended purposes.”, Akabueze also highlighted the importance of capacity building for these professional bodies to enhance their ability to contribute effectively to the nation’s development. The Director-General’s comments come at a time when Nigeria is grappling with issues of corruption and inefficiency in its public procurement processes. The need for greater oversight and transparency in these processes has been a major concern for many Nigerians, and the role of professional bodies in driving reforms in this area is crucial.
