The World Bank has positioned Nigeria as a promising AI hub in Africa, according to a report by Tribune Online. The report, which aligns with a similar claim from Google News, suggests that Nigeria, alongside Kenya and South Africa, is emerging as one of Africa’s leading centers for Artificial Intelligence (AI) activity. According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Bank stated that AI activity on the continent is currently concentrated in these three economies, although adoption remains at an early stage across most African countries. This development comes as the World Bank also predicts that an AI developer boom could create 40 million digital jobs across Africa, as reported by Businessday NG. The emergence of Nigeria as a significant player in the AI sector could significantly contribute to the creation of digital jobs and boost the country’s technological advancement. However, it’s crucial to note that while the World Bank’s report provides promising indications, the adoption and implementation of AI in Nigeria are still at an early stage, and challenges may arise as the sector grows.
