Rivers Governorship Candidates: INEC Final List Released

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of governorship candidates for the 2027 elections in Rivers State. According to Daily Post Nigeria, the list includes Chinda Kingsley Ogundu as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Dumo Lulu-Briggs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other candidates are also named. The move comes ahead of the general elections scheduled for 2027. This development follows a Supreme Court judgment that restored provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 restricting participation in party primaries to members whose names appear on membership registers submitted to INEC within the statutory period. Notably, some individuals, including Isa Pantami and Adebutu, were excluded from the list. The PDP has blamed the ruling APC’s desperation for Mr Adebutu’s exclusion. The opposition party in Ogun State has expressed concern over Adebutu’s omission, alleging political pressure from the APC. Pantami’s camp has appealed for calm among his supporters following the omission of his name from the INEC list. The final list of candidates for the 2027 State Houses of Assembly elections has also been published by INEC. This list covers candidates contesting seats across various states. The full list includes 9,692 candidates.
