Naija Feminists Media, a Nigerian organization dedicated to promoting gender equality, has taken a significant step in the fight against child marriage by training 52 girls in Abuja. The training, held at the FRCN HQ (Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria Headquarters), aimed to empower these young girls and equip them with the knowledge and skills to resist early marriages. According to reports from Nigeria Abuja on Google News, the training was part of a larger effort to tackle the issue of child marriage in Nigeria.
The National Council of Women’s Societies (NCWS), another organization working towards gender equality, has also raised concerns about the high prevalence of child marriage in Nigeria. In a report by THISDAYLIVE, NCWS revealed that more than 24 million Nigerian women and girls alive today were married before their 18th birthday, underscoring the urgent need for action.
ActionAid Nigeria, another organization fighting for the rights of children and women, has also condemned the marriage of 33.4% of underage girls in the country and called for the enforcement of child marriage laws. This highlights the severity of the issue and the need for immediate action from the government.
