TikTok Responds to Allegations of Restricted Access in Northern Nigeria

After reports emerged of restricted access to TikTok in Northern Nigeria, the social media giant has responded, denying any such limitations.

According to multiple sources, including Premium Times Nigeria and Realnews Magazine, TikTok has denied restricting access in the region. However, it is unclear when these reports first surfaced or why such restrictions were suspected.

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have reportedly demanded an investigation into the matter, highlighting concerns about internet freedom and censorship in Nigeria.

It is important to note that TikTok’s response does not necessarily mean that restrictions did not exist at some point, but rather that they have been lifted. The company has not said when the alleged restrictions began or ended.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing concerns about internet access and censorship in Nigeria, and the need for transparency and accountability from tech companies operating in the country.
