The Super Falcons of Nigeria are gearing up for the second leg of their Olympic Games qualifying tie against Comoros, with interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen and striker Uchenna Kanu both expressing optimism about the team’s chances of securing a double victory.
In the first leg, the Super Falcons defeated Comoros 2-0, thanks to goals from defender Michelle Alozie and Kanu himself. The return fixture will take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Nigeria.
Despite holding a comfortable aggregate lead, Eguavoen insists his side will not approach the match merely to protect their advantage. Speaking to Premium Times Nigeria, he said, ‘We have to build on the first leg advantage, we can’t afford to be complacent.’
Kanu, who scored in the first leg, shares Eguavoen’s sentiment. ‘We want to double our win against Comoros,’ he told Daily Post Nigeria. ‘We have the advantage, and we’re determined to make the most of it.’
This match is particularly significant for the Super Falcons, as a victory would secure their place in the 2028 Olympic Games. The team, which has won the African Women’s Championship a record ten times, last participated in the Olympics in 2016, where they reached the quarterfinals.
For Nigerian football fans, this match promises to be an exciting one. With the team’s strong record and the determination of both Eguavoen and Kanu, there is every reason to believe that the Super Falcons will emerge victorious.
