The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has made headlines once again, this time in a raid on a suspected counterfeit drinks production facility at the Trade Fair Complex, along the Badagry Expressway, Ojo, Lagos State. According to a report by Tribune Online, the operation resulted in the arrest of two persons, Chibuzor Okafor and William John, who were apprehended at a two-storey building linked to the illegal operation. The details of the alleged counterfeit drinks factory and the types of beverages being produced are yet to be disclosed by NAFDAC. This is not the first time NAFDAC has taken action against counterfeit food and drink producers in Nigeria. In recent years, the agency has been active in shutting down several such factories across the country. The bust of this latest facility, however, seems particularly significant due to the large-scale nature of the operation, as suggested by the seizure of products valued at over N2bn, as reported by Punch Newspapers. This seizure could potentially prevent a significant amount of substandard or dangerous drinks from entering the market. NAFDAC’s continued vigilance in combating the production and distribution of counterfeit food and drink is commendable and crucial in ensuring the safety of Nigerian consumers. However, it is important to note that the fight against counterfeit goods is an ongoing one, and the public must remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to NAFDAC.
