Tension in Ibadan: Accord Party Members Attacked by Suspected Thugs

In a concerning turn of events, suspected thugs have reportedly attacked Accord Party members in Ibadan, Oyo State, according to Tribune Online. The incident occurred on Thursday, October 14th, just days before the Oyo gubernatorial election. The attack has escalated tensions in the city and raises concerns about the state of democracy in the region.
‘This is democracy. You have the right to support any candidate of your choice. We ought to have outgrown this kind of politics,’ a party member lamented after the attack, according to the Tribune Online report.
The Oyo gubernatorial election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 16th. The police and other security agencies have been deployed to maintain peace and order during the election.
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred in the run-up to an election in Nigeria. Election-related violence has been a recurring issue in previous elections, causing tension and loss of lives.
It is important to note that the perpetrators of the attack have not been identified, and it is unclear if any arrests have been made. It is also uncertain if the attack was sanctioned by any political party or candidate.
The Oyo State chapter of the Accord Party has called on the security agencies to ensure the safety of its members and other citizens during the election. The party also urged voters to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the security agencies.
