The All Progressives Congress (APC) is stepping up its efforts to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, tasking governors and lawmakers with grassroots mobilization. This follows the inauguration of an expanded campaign council, according to Premium Times Nigeria. The new council, which was inaugurated at the Presidential Villa, is seen as a move to leverage the party’s control of the federal, state, and local governments to build a coordinated campaign reaching wards and polling units across the country. However, the move has attracted criticism from some quarters. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has described the expanded campaign council as a ‘crowded confession of fear’, accusing President Tinubu of prioritizing political alliances over Nigeria’s economic hardship and insecurity, as reported by Vanguard News. Meanwhile, the opposition Alliance for Democracy (ADC) has accused the APC of coercing opposition governors into its fold or including them in its campaign structure despite their continued membership of other political parties, as reported by Vanguard News. This development comes as President Tinubu continues his nationwide tours, seeking to strengthen his support ahead of the 2027 elections.
