The youngest female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mrs. Olamide Mojigbotoluwa Adekunle, has called attention to the impact of court delays on the cost of justice in Nigeria. In an interview with THISDAYLIVE, Adekunle, who made history as the youngest female SAN at age 36, expressed her concern over the high cost of litigation in the country, attributing it in part to delays in the justice system. According to Adekunle, these delays not only prolong legal disputes but also drive up costs for litigants, lawyers, and the judiciary. This situation, she argued, not only puts a strain on the justice system but also discourages potential litigants from seeking legal remedies. “Delays in justice delivery are a major cause of high litigation costs and limited access to justice for many Nigerians,” Adekunle said. She called on the judiciary to address this issue, suggesting measures such as improving case management, expediting trial proceedings, and reducing the backlog of cases. This issue is of great importance to Nigerian citizens, as access to affordable and timely justice is a fundamental right enshrined in the country’s constitution.
