The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has urged Anambra journalists to take a more proactive role in promoting Nigeria’s local content policy in the oil and gas sector. According to THISDAYLIVE, the call was made during the Renaissance Training Programme in Warri, where the NCDMB is collaborating with the initiative to train 60 Nigerians in critical oil and gas technical skills. Speaking at the event, NCDMB’s Executive Secretary, Engr. Simbi Wabote, emphasized the importance of the media in promoting the local content policy, stating that ‘the media must be more proactive in its reporting to ensure that the policy is implemented effectively.’
This development underscores the crucial role journalism plays in driving accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. The local content policy, which aims to ensure that a significant percentage of contracts are awarded to Nigerian companies, has been a subject of debate in recent years due to concerns over its effectiveness and implementation. By engaging the media, the NCDMB hopes to increase public awareness and pressure for improved implementation of the policy.
The NCDMB’s call to Anambra journalists is timely, as the state is home to several oil and gas facilities. The sector contributes significantly to the state’s economy, making it essential that the local content policy is effectively implemented for the benefit of all stakeholders.
