The European Union (EU) has announced a €45 million aid package to support Nigeria’s efforts in addressing its growing poor population, potentially the largest in the world, according to THISDAYLIVE. The EU Ambassador to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Ketil Karlsen, made the announcement during a meeting with the Nigerian Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed. The aid package includes a €20 million support package for the Nigerian armed forces to combat terrorism. This development comes as the Nigerian government grapples with the challenges of poverty and insecurity, particularly in the north-east region of the country. The EU’s commitment highlights the international community’s growing recognition of the urgent need for action to address these issues in Nigeria. The EU’s aid package will be directed towards improving the living conditions of the poor, enhancing the capacity of the Nigerian armed forces, and promoting peace and security in the country.
