Dr. Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a stark warning to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). According to a statement signed by Dr. Kwankwaso on Monday, the former Vice President cannot rely on the votes of the Hausa-Fulani community alone to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. The warning comes as the political landscape in Nigeria continues to shift in the lead-up to the elections. The NDC has yet to officially announce Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate, but he is widely expected to run. However, Dr. Kwankwaso’s statement suggests that the NDC may face challenges in securing the support of the Hausa-Fulani community, a traditionally influential voting bloc in northern Nigeria. This warning could have significant implications for the 2027 elections, as both the APC and NDC will be vying for support from a diverse range of ethnic and religious groups across the country. In a separate statement, Dr. Kwankwaso also cautioned Nigerians against the proposed return of petroleum subsidies by the ADC Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. According to Dr. Kwankwaso, Atiku’s proposal to reintroduce subsidies would push petrol prices to an estimated N4,000 per liter, plunging Nigeria and its citizens into devastating poverty and uncertainties. It remains to be seen how these developments will unfold in the coming months, as the 2027 elections approach.
