Anambra Government Releases Records of N363m Salary Arrears Amid Obi Debt Dispute

In a move that deepens the ongoing debate over debt accrued during his tenure, the Anambra State Government has released documents detailing N363.38 million in salary arrears owed to workers and pensioners of two defunct state agencies. According to Vanguard News, the records were presented amid former governor Peter Obi’s insistence that he left the state without debt.

The dispute between Obi and the current government revolves around a claim by the ex-governor that he left Anambra without any outstanding debts. However, the state government has been adamant that several debts remain unpaid. The release of these records further underscores this contention.

The documents in question detail salary arrears owed to workers and pensioners of the defunct Anambra State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) and the Anambra State Water Corporation. According to Vanguard News, the arrears amount to N363.38 million.

This development comes as both parties continue to exchange words over the matter. While Obi maintains that he left no debts, the current government insists that several outstanding debts remain unpaid. With the release of these records, the debate appears far from resolution.
