Nigerian Scrap Dealers Announce Nationwide Strike over Irregularities

In a move that could disrupt Nigeria’s recycling sector, the National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria (NASWDEN) has announced a nationwide strike starting October 1. The decision, according to multiple sources, including Vanguard News and Punch Newspapers, was made over alleged irregularities in the scrap metal industry.

The dealers, who are essential players in recycling waste metals, have accused iron and steel companies of price cuts that undermine their profits. These allegations have sparked widespread discontent among scrap metal dealers across Nigeria, leading to the threat of a nationwide shutdown if the issues remain unaddressed.

The move could potentially impact various sectors reliant on recycling, including construction and automotive industries. The strike is scheduled to commence from October 1, according to Vanguard News.
