In a significant development, a Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a N120 million lawsuit filed by Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, against the Department of State Services (DSS), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF). According to reports by Premium Times Nigeria, the court ruled that the suit was an abuse of court process as it was filed in reaction to a preliminary investigation by the security agencies.
The lawsuit, which was first filed in May 2021, alleged that the agencies were violating El-Rufai’s fundamental human rights by investigating him without any evidence of wrongdoing. However, the court found that the investigation was within the remit of the agencies’ mandate and dismissed the suit.
This decision by the court comes amidst ongoing legal battles between El-Rufai and various security agencies in Nigeria. The Governor has been embroiled in several controversies, including allegations of corruption and abuse of power, which have been the subject of investigations by the DSS, EFCC, and ICPC.
