After two decades of contention, the Federal Government of Nigeria and Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) have resolved their long-standing dispute over the Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 (MMA2), a significant private terminal in Lagos. Consequently, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commenced earning revenue from the facility.
The resolution of this dispute marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s aviation sector, as it paves the way for FAAN to boost its revenue stream and improve service delivery at the airport.
According to multiple reports, the details of the resolution agreement have not been disclosed publicly. However, it is understood that the agreement addresses the long-standing issue of concession fees and management of the airport terminal.
The resolution of the dispute comes at a time when the Nigerian aviation sector is undergoing significant transformation, with plans for the construction of a monorail linking the Ikeja Railway Station and MMIA Terminal 1, as well as the approval of a design for a monorail linking the Lagos Airport to other key destinations.
