The Federal Government is aiming to achieve a single-digit inflation rate by the end of 2027, several news sources report. According to LEADERSHIP Newspapers, the government is working towards this target, although no specific timeline has been provided. PM News Nigeria also reported that the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, made the announcement during the 2027 budget presentation to the National Assembly. Business Post Nigeria corroborated this report, quoting the Minister as stating that the government is committed to maintaining a sustainable macroeconomic environment to achieve the goal. The exact strategy the government will employ to reach this target is yet to be disclosed. However, it is worth noting that Nigeria’s inflation rate stood at 15.6% in September 2026, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. This high inflation rate has been attributed to various factors, including the ongoing global supply chain disruptions and increased fuel prices due to the removal of fuel subsidies. The government’s commitment to reducing inflation to single digits is significant as it indicates a focus on economic stability and growth. This move could potentially boost consumer confidence and stimulate investment in the Nigerian economy.
