Abia’s Voter Registration Gap: 460,011 New Voters Yet Only 21,528 Have Picked Up Their PVCs

According to a report by Vanguard News, preparations for the 2027 general elections are underway and the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) has emerged as a significant concern in the South-East. The region, which comprises Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo states, accounts for the lowest share of Nigeria’s registered voters. In Abia state alone, over 460,000 new voters have been registered, but a mere 21,528 have collected their PVCs.

‘While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to disclose the number of registered voters across the country, the South-East seems to be lagging behind,’ the report notes.

The low turnout in PVC collection could potentially impact the region’s participation in the upcoming elections. It is crucial for Nigerian voters to be aware of this gap and ensure they collect their PVCs to exercise their democratic rights.
