In a radio interview in Nasarawa State on Wednesday, former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, voiced his concerns about Nigeria’s handling of public funds. According to Daily Post Nigeria, Obi criticized successive administrations for failing to protect public funds and allow them to generate interest in banks, stating that this would have accumulated substantial wealth for the country. The former governor, who is a presidential hopeful, made these remarks during a discussion on public finance management, accountability, and his record as governor. ‘Nigeria is a criminalized place,’ Obi said, ‘to be honest is to be a criminal.’ This statement reflects his view that the country’s leadership has not prioritized the proper management of public funds, leading to a lack of accountability and wealth accumulation. Obi’s comments come as Nigeria faces economic challenges, including inflation and a weak naira, and as the 2027 general elections approach, with many Nigerians seeking change and a new direction for the country.
