NCC Grants Licenses to Kano Phone Dealers

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has begun licensing phone dealers in Kano State, as part of the implementation of the Device Checker platform.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has taken a significant step towards regulating the telecommunications sector in Kano State by commencing the licensing of device dealers. This move is part of the NCC’s implementation of the Device Checker platform, a digital initiative aimed at ensuring compliance with regulatory standards among mobile device dealers across the country. According to THISDAYLIVE, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, confirmed the development, stating that the licensing process is a crucial step towards maintaining the integrity of the nation’s telecoms sector.

The Device Checker platform, which was launched in August 2026, is designed to check the authenticity of mobile devices and ensure they comply with regulatory standards. This initiative is expected to curb the proliferation of counterfeit devices in the market and protect consumers from potential risks associated with such devices. The NCC has not yet announced when the licensing process will be extended to other states across Nigeria.

This development is significant for consumers in Kano State as it promises to improve the quality of mobile devices available in the market and protect them from the risks associated with counterfeit devices. The licensing process also signifies a proactive approach by the NCC towards maintaining the integrity of the nation’s telecoms sector.
