CCB Faces Legal Action Over Refusal to Release Peter Obi’s Asset Declaration Form

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) is facing a lawsuit for refusing to release the details of the asset declaration form submitted by former Anambra governor and presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has found itself in legal hot water after it was sued for refusing to release the details of the asset declaration form submitted by former Anambra governor and presidential candidate, Peter Obi. According to the Tribune Online, the lawsuit was filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja. The suit alleges that the CCB’s refusal to release the information is in contravention of the Freedom of Information Act (FOI). This development comes as the 2026 presidential elections draw nearer, with Obi being a major contender. The CCB has not yet responded to the allegations or commented on the lawsuit. This is not the first time the CCB has faced criticism over its handling of asset declaration forms. In 2024, the bureau was criticized for its handling of the forms submitted by former president, Goodluck Jonathan. The bureau was accused of altering the forms to show less wealth than what was originally declared. The CCB denied the allegations, stating that the changes were made to correct errors in the forms. The lawsuit against the CCB is significant as it highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the political process. Nigerian voters have a right to know the financial status of their political candidates, and the CCB’s refusal to release the information could be seen as an attempt to hide something. It remains to be seen how the court will rule on the matter, but the lawsuit has certainly added another layer of intrigue to the 2026 presidential elections.
