Health experts sound alarm on sudden deaths and prostate cancer

Medical experts have raised concerns about the rising number of sudden deaths among young Nigerians and the prevalence of prostate cancer among men. They urged Nigerians to prioritize regular health checks and early treatment.

At the 2026 Arise Women Conference, cardiologist Dr Jane Ajuluchukwu warned that cardiovascular diseases are claiming the lives of many young Nigerians. Her concerns were echoed by other health professionals who spoke at the event, including Dr Adaeze Okafor, a urologist, who discussed the rising incidence of prostate cancer among Nigerian men. According to Dr Okafor, the disease often goes undetected until it has advanced, making treatment more difficult. ‘Regular screening is crucial for early detection and treatment of prostate cancer,’ she emphasized. Dr Ajuluchukwu urged Nigerians to prioritize regular health checks, including blood pressure and cholesterol tests, and to seek immediate medical attention if they experience any unusual symptoms. She also called for improved healthcare infrastructure and increased public awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The concerns raised by these health experts underscore the need for Nigerians to prioritize their health and seek regular medical check-ups. According to Punch Newspapers, this issue is of particular concern among young Nigerians, who are more likely to die from cardiovascular diseases and prostate cancer than their counterparts in other countries.
