Ministers Urge Nigerians to Embrace Early Cancer Screening

Ministers of Education and the Federal Capital Territory have called on Nigerians to prioritize regular cancer screenings and early detection, emphasizing that the disease does not discriminate.

The Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmed, and the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Maria Mahmoud, have implored Nigerians to embrace early cancer screenings to improve detection rates and survival chances. According to a statement issued by the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, both ministers made the call during a cancer awareness walk in Abuja on Sunday. The ministers warned that cancer does not discriminate based on age or social status, urging Nigerians to prioritize their health and wellbeing by seeking regular screenings. The call to action comes as cancer continues to be a significant health issue in Nigeria, with high mortality rates due to late detection and lack of access to quality care. While the government has made efforts to improve cancer care, more needs to be done to educate the public about the importance of regular screenings and early detection. The call to action from the ministers is a welcome development, as it highlights the need for a collective approach to combat the disease and save lives.
