Nigeria Telecoms Association Urges Policy Reform in Response to Legislative Summons

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has called for policy reform following a summons by the Senate over alleged poor network services.

In a response to a summons issued by the Nigerian Senate, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has urged the government to address policy issues affecting the telecoms sector. According to Nigeria Business, the Senate had summoned the operators over allegations of poor network services and high data costs. ALTON, however, blamed the issues on ‘policy inconsistencies, multiple taxations, and regulatory uncertainties.’ The Senate’s summon comes amidst ongoing calls for better network services and affordable data prices by Nigerian consumers. The telecoms industry is a crucial sector in Nigeria’s economy, contributing significantly to the country’s GDP. However, it has been plagued by several challenges, including infrastructure deficits, regulatory bottlenecks, and high operational costs. Nigeria Business
