Professor Pat Utomi Accuses INEC of Planning to Rig 2027 Elections

Professor Pat Utomi, a political economist, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of planning to manipulate the 2027 general elections.

According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria, Professor Pat Utomi, a renowned political economist, has raised concerns about the integrity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. In a statement posted on his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday, Professor Utomi accused INEC of plotting to manipulate the elections. He expressed his belief that the Nigerian people may revolt against the electoral body if such actions were to occur. However, it is unclear what evidence Professor Utomi has to support these claims.

Professor Utomi’s statement comes amidst ongoing debates about the readiness of INEC for the 2027 elections. Some have raised concerns about the commission’s ability to conduct free and fair elections, particularly given the technological advancements that have been made in recent years.

This is not the first time Professor Utomi has spoken out about his concerns over the electoral process in Nigeria. In 2023, he criticized the conduct of the 2023 elections, stating that the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) was not transparent enough.

INEC has not yet responded to Professor Utomi’s latest accusations. The commission has previously stated that it is committed to ensuring a free, fair, and credible electoral process in 2027.
