NiDCOM Urges The Gambia to Reverse Directive Affecting 57 Nigerian Bank Workers

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has called on The Gambia's Central Bank to reconsider a directive that affects 57 Nigerian bank workers.

In a statement, the NiDCOM said the directive, which demands that these Nigerian bank workers register with the Gambian Immigration Services, is discriminatory and violates the rights of Nigerian expatriates. According to Tribune Online, the Nigerian High Commissioner to The Gambia, Olasunkanmi Akinremi, met with the Central Bank Governor, Buumba S. Jammeh, to discuss the matter. The Nigerian bank workers, who are based in The Gambia, have been given until December 31st, 2026, to comply with the directive. However, the NiDCOM believes that this directive could negatively impact the Nigerian expatriate community in The Gambia, and has urged the Central Bank to reconsider its stance. This development comes amidst growing concerns about the treatment of Nigerian expatriates in various countries. The NiDCOM has been advocating for the rights of Nigerians in the diaspora and has been working to address such issues.
