The Federal Government is investing over N80 billion into 40 tertiary institutions to bolster food production and promote agricultural research.

The Federal Government has announced plans to inject more than N80 billion into 40 tertiary institutions under the Renewed Hope Tertiary Agricultural and Entrepreneurship Programme (RHETAP). The aim is to boost food production, promote agricultural research, and create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths. According to the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, this investment is part of the government’s commitment to enhancing food security and creating a knowledge-based economy. The institutions selected for this programme are expected to focus on agriculture, agribusiness, and rural development. This move comes as Nigeria grapples with food insecurity and youth unemployment. The Minister of State for Education, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, emphasized that the programme would not only provide practical skills but also stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth.
