In a rare interview with The Sun Nigeria, the newly-appointed Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Yo-an, has outlined his agenda for strengthening the already robust relationship between our two nations. Ambassador Yo-an, who assumed office in August 2026, stated that his primary focus would be on enhancing trade, investment, and cultural exchanges between South Korea and Nigeria. According to Yo-an, the potential for mutual growth is vast, particularly in the areas of technology, agriculture, and education. The Korean diplomat expressed optimism about the prospect of increased cooperation, particularly in light of the recent visit of Nigerian President Buhari to South Korea in June 2026. He further emphasized the need for joint efforts to combat climate change, as both nations grapple with its effects. Ambassador Yo-an also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange programmes, saying that such initiatives would foster better understanding between the two peoples. He concluded by expressing his gratitude to the Nigerian government and people for their warm welcome and pledged to work tirelessly to strengthen bilateral relations. This development is significant as it underscores the growing importance of Nigeria in South Korea’s foreign policy, and the potential for deeper collaboration between the two nations.
