The Rise of Samson Adamu in African Football: Following in His Father’s Footsteps
Samson Adamu, son of Dr. Amos Adamu, has been confirmed as the General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently confirmed Samson Adamu, the son of Dr. Amos Adamu, as the General Secretary of the continental football body. This appointment has sparked a conversation about the younger Adamu’s rise in African football and his potential to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Dr. Amos Adamu, a former Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) chairman, was a controversial figure in Nigerian football due to allegations of corruption. However, he is also credited with helping to bring the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Cup to Nigeria and for his role in the nation’s qualification for the 2002 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.
Samson Adamu, who has worked in various capacities within CAF, is yet to make a significant impact as the General Secretary. However, former Super Eagles player, Paul Okoku, in today’s column, believes that Adamu’s appointment should ‘encourage Nigeria to reclaim its position as a dominant force in African football.’
Okoku also emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the running of CAF, a call that has been echoed by many in the wake of recent scandals involving the continental football body.
The confirmation of Samson Adamu as the CAF General Secretary is a significant development in African football, and it will be interesting to see if he can live up to the legacy of his father while avoiding the controversies that marred his tenure.
