APC Accused of Pressuring Abuja Hotels to Deny Opposition Venues
The NDC has accused the APC of pressuring Abuja hotels to deny venues to opposition parties, stirring concerns over democracy in the capital city.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of pressuring hotels in Abuja, the capital city, to deny venues to opposition political parties. According to The Guardian Nigeria News, TheCable, Peoples Gazette Nigeria, Sahara Reporters, and Tribune Online, the NDC claims this is a deliberate attempt to disadvantage opposition parties. The NDC’s allegations have sparked concern among Nigerians, who see this as a threat to democracy. The APC has not yet responded to these accusations. If confirmed, this would not be the first time such incidents have been reported in Nigeria. In 2019, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was accused of pressuring hotels in Abuja to deny venues to the opposition during the general elections. The NDC’s allegations come at a time when the ruling party is preparing for its national convention scheduled for November 20th. The convention will elect new party executives and set the stage for the 2027 elections.
