SDP Rejects Wike’s Coalition, Faults Court Ruling Against Mark-led ADC

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has rejected the Federal High Court judgment that nullified the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Senator David Mark, describing the ruling as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has rejected the Federal High Court judgment that nullified the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Senator David Mark, describing the ruling as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy. The party also rejected the purported ‘rainbow coalition’ being championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Rotimi Amaechi, and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State. According to the Tribune Online, the SDP’s National Chairman, Olu Falae, said the party would not align with the coalition, maintaining that the ADC remains the only authentic party with Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate. This rejection comes after a court ruling on Thursday, which declared illegal the Senator Mark-led Caretaker Committee of the ADC, which organised the primary election that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential flag bearer. The ruling was delivered by Justice Peter Lifu. The SDP’s stance against Wike’s coalition could have significant implications for the 2027 elections, particularly in the power struggle between Atiku Abubakar and other presidential candidates.
