APC Warns Against Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Bid Amid Corruption Allegations

In a statement released on Thursday, National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, warned that Atiku must never again be allowed near Nigeria’s treasury due to his alleged involvement in various financial scandals. According to Premium Times Nigeria, Atiku’s name is engraved ingloriously on files and dossiers of onshore and offshore financial scandals, including the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project, Siemens bribery scandal, William Jefferson case, PTDF funds controversy, and US Senate investigation into suspicious financial transactions.

Vanguard News reported that the APC cited Atiku’s past as a reason to urge Nigerians to reject his presidential bid in 2027. Morka stated, ‘The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned Nigerians against voting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar into power in the 2027 presidential election, warning that he must never again be allowed anywhere near the nation’s treasury.’

This warning comes as Atiku, a prominent opposition figure, is rumored to be considering another run for president after his loss to President Buhari in the 2019 elections. It remains unclear if Atiku will officially announce his candidacy for the 2027 election.

Editorial notes: The APC’s warning against Atiku’s presidential bid is based on a history of corruption allegations, but it is important to note that these allegations have not been proven in court.
