In a recent ruling, a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has handed down a severe punishment to a local trader, Elijah Chigbogu. The court found him guilty of unlawfully possessing, importing, and distributing fake and unregistered drugs. Justice Musa Kakaki delivered the judgment after Chigbogu and his two associated companies, Prolife & Well Pharmaceutical Limited and God of Elijah Nigeria Limited, pleaded guilty to the charges. According to reports from Punch Newspapers, Chigbogu’s conviction comes as part of a larger crackdown on the distribution of counterfeit pharmaceuticals.
The court fined Chigbogu and his companies a total of N1.5 million. This ruling underscores the Nigerian government’s commitment to combating the sale of fake drugs, a problem that poses significant risks to public health.
