Atiku Demands Answers as Nigeria’s Debt Hits N166.79tn

In a statement released on Monday, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed concern over the rapidly growing public debt in Nigeria, which has now surpassed N166.79tn under the current Tinubu administration. According to Punch Newspapers, this figure represents an increase of over 50% since the Tinubu government assumed office.

‘The continued rise in our national debt is a cause for grave concern,’ Atiku said in his statement.

Atiku called for a full reconciliation and transparency in the management of Nigeria’s debt, stating that ‘the Nigerian people have a right to know how their resources are being used.’

The former vice president’s call comes amidst growing criticism over the Tinubu administration’s handling of the country’s economy. Many Nigerians have expressed concern over the government’s fiscal policies, which they believe have contributed to the rise in public debt.

While the Tinubu administration has not yet responded to Atiku’s call for transparency, it remains to be seen how the government will address this issue moving forward.
