Following the tragic crash of a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State on Wednesday, October 6, which resulted in the death of 25 personnel, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called for transparency and integrity in the investigation process. According to The Guardian Nigeria News, CAN’s President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged the NAF to ensure that the cause of the crash is thoroughly investigated.
The air force aircraft was reportedly on a routine training mission when it crashed near a secondary school in Igbokoda, Ondo State. According to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the tragic incident occurred around 12:40 PM. As of press time, the NAF has not provided details about the cause of the crash or when the facility began operating.
Meanwhile, the ADC has called for an audit of NAF aircraft maintenance funds after the crash in Ondo State, questioning the disparity in funding between the Presidential Air Fleet and the regular air force. According to Punch Newspapers, the party’s spokesperson, Yemi Kolapo, said it was concerning that while the Presidential Air Fleet received N30 billion for maintenance in 2021, the NAF only received N4.5 billion.
In a separate development, Vice-President Kashim Shettima has paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Ondo Air Force crash and expressed his sympathy with the bereaved families. According to THISDAYLIVE, Shettima said the supreme sacrifice made by the victims would not be forgotten.
