According to multiple sources, President Bola Tinubu, at the sixth conference and retreat for senior police officers in Owerri, Imo State, on Monday, warned the Nigeria Police Force against political bias ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the Conference on Armed Forces and Police Operations (CARSPO) 2026, declared open on behalf of Tinubu by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Disu emphasized the need for neutrality in the enforcement of law and order during elections. Premium Times Nigeria reported that Disu warned politicians against hiring mobs, buying votes or threatening voters and electoral officials during the elections.
In a separate report by Punch Newspapers, Tinubu expressed his concerns about the police allowing political interests to influence its conduct during elections. He tasked the Nigeria Police Force with ensuring that the 2027 general elections are conducted in a peaceful and fair manner.
Similarly, according to Tribune Online, Tinubu warned the police against any form of partisan conduct during the elections. He called on them to ensure that the 2027 election is peaceful and transparent.
Lastly, in a report by Daily Post Nigeria, Disu warned politicians against hiring thugs, buying votes or threatening voters and electoral officials during the elections. He emphasized that the police would not tolerate any form of electoral malpractice during the elections.
