The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has revealed that the $500 million earmarked for the reconstruction of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) old terminal comes from proceeds generated by the removal of oil subsidies. According to reports in Tribune Online and Daily Post Nigeria, Keyamo made this disclosure on Monday at an event in Lagos, stating that with the removal of the fuel subsidy, foreign reserves rose, enabling President Bola Tinubu to raise funds for the airport project. The Minister’s revelation comes as a boost to efforts aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s aviation sector and enhancing the country’s global competitiveness. It is unclear when exactly the facility began operating or how long the reconstruction process will take.
