According to THISDAYLIVE, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has called for a review of the salary structure for public servants in Nigeria. This recommendation comes as an attempt to tackle the issue of corruption in the country. During a recent event, Mustapha stated that the current salary structure may be contributing to the prevalence of corruption and needs to be re-examined. The exact details of the proposed review are not yet clear, but Mustapha emphasized the need for a comprehensive review to ensure fairness and transparency in the public sector. The call for a review of public servants’ salaries is not a new topic in Nigeria, with various discussions and proposals made in the past. However, the effectiveness of such measures in addressing corruption remains uncertain. It is worth noting that the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) is responsible for determining the remuneration packages and conditions of service of all political, public and judicial office holders in the country. The NSIWC has not yet commented on Mustapha’s suggestion, and it is unclear whether any action will be taken in response to his call.
