In a move aimed at enhancing electricity supply in Ibadan communities, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced a new solar power project. According to a report by Tribune Online, the project, which features a 17.74-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system, is expected to boost electricity supply in the region.
Governor Makinde made this announcement during the flag-off ceremony of the project. The project, he said, is part of the state’s commitment to providing sustainable and reliable power supply to its citizens.
The solar power project, which is located in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, is expected to provide electricity to several communities in the area. The project, when fully operational, is projected to provide approximately 17.75 megawatts of electricity, a significant boost to the current power supply in the region.
The project is expected to reduce the dependence on the national grid, thereby improving power stability and reliability in the region. The initiative is also expected to create job opportunities for the local community during and after the project’s construction.
This project is part of Governor Makinde’s broader agenda to improve power supply in Oyo State. The governor has previously announced plans to establish solar-powered streetlights in some parts of the state, as well as a 10-megawatt solar power plant in Ogbomoso.
